BareBones Youth Past Production
Macbeth
by William Shakespeare and Richard Curnow
The Production
This summer workshop production took a script produced by Richard Curnow and, after thirty hours rehearsal presented a public open air promenade performance of a forty minute Macbeth. A tall order but a delightful five days.
We were fortunate indeed not only to have the best weather of the summer but also to have the exclusive use of a wonderful Victorian mansion house set in a thousand acres of rolling Herefordshire countrytside. In this idyllic setting just thirteen members of the youth company had enormous fun with a clever Richard Curnow script which, whilst packed with comic anachronisms. communicated the essence of the tragedy in a half dozen natural settings in house and grounds.
On the evening of performance an audience of about seventy followed the players from setting to setting led by a narrator and often joining in the promenade chants with enormous enthusiasm. The production ended with audience members picnicking around the rose garden on a beautiful balmy summer evening. The young cast will long remember the 2005 summer workshop.
