The Merchant of Venice
by William Shakespeare adapted by Dave Baldwin
The Production

This year's open air Shakespeare play was "The Merchant of Venice". It was performed on the evening of 3rd September in the grounds of Bishopswood House before an appreciative audience of around one hundred and fifty people. The performance was the culmination of a five day theatre workshop at Bishopswood. Each member of the thirty strong cast came to the workshop with a good working knowledge of the play and a fully learned role. The workshop co-ordinated the action of the play, polished the characterisations and set the whole piece against the backdrop of this beautiful Victorian mansion house. The 'summer' weather often threatened to wash away the efforts of our young players but the day of performance dawned on a miraculously sunny day and once again Shakespeares words were delivered under a blue sky.
