The Odd Couple (Female Version)
by Neil Simon
The Production
For many the name "Odd Couple" conjures up memories of
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon in the 1968 film. It was the phenomenal success of that play which, twenty years later, inspired Neil Simon to write another equally hilarious version where the couple of the title are two women. The play chronicles the brief period during which Olive Madison, a self confessed slob, shares her flat and her life with Florece Unger, a stickler for order and tidiness. Add a couple of amorous Spaniards and you have the ingredients for the inimitable 'laugh-a-minute' comedy style of Neil Simon.
Our production was very successful and clearly appealed to our village supporters, attracting near capacity audiences at every venue. We welcomed a new actress Sharon Chilcott and were particularly pleased to receive very enthusiastic support at Ruardean to which we were making our first visit.
